War of the Mages

Long ago, in an age where the gods smiled down on the world, magic users and healers roamed freely throughout the lands of the world. Everything was peaceful for a time. One dark night, a sorceress thought that she could control the power of the gods and become a god herself. She summoned her most powerful magic, but, at the last minute, the other magic users joined together, bringing their powers together in a magical battle.

For thousands of years the battle raged, the gods never intervening, waiting to see what the outcome would be. As the war continues, magic users from both sides have begun to sneak away to try and find a neutral party to end the war and bring peace to the world. But both sides have sent out spies to stop these people. Enemies becoming friends, friends becoming enemies, what will be the outcome?

Clarisse stood on the battlements of a tall tower overlooking a dark courtyard. She stared out along the horizon of a dark sky gray with storm clouds. She had a look on her face as dark as the sky around her. She glowered at a nearby servant. "Some day, I will control the power of the gods," She hissed.

Two girl were walking on forest path which directed to a city nearby. "Ara, we are almost there, Selena... Just a little longer..." the silver haired Ezaria said to her friend Selena whom was very tired.

"I hate walking this far..." Selena grumbled. "Let's find a place to rest in the town first..."

Amarie drew her cloak closer to herself as she walked the lonely path towards the city,it was not wise to let others see who she was and what she was wearing,the symbol of the high healer was etched on her clothing.She wondered when she would meet her friend,Islûsan.

Islûsan straightened her dress as she watched the unnaturally dark storm clouds begin to roll in from her window. She looked out of her window for Amarie, wondering when her friend would arrive. She sighed softly, and she lit the fire in the fireplace, hoping her friend would arrive before it began to rain.

Sadentìr was in a forest in the middle of the large storm. Thunder rolled through the sky, and lightning flashed, illuminating the sky and the woods in bright flashes of light. He was crouched beneath the brush near a tree. He sighed softly and watched the storm as he waited for others to help him.

Amarie pulled her hood closer to her face as she looked up at the sky,a storm is coming and she knows it,luckily for her she was already at the entrance of the city.She looked at the guards,she kept her face down and walked past them without much obstacle.She sighed softly in relief as she headed towards Islûsan's house,upon reaching the door she knocked.

Islûsan sighed with relief as she answered the door. "Good, you made it before the rain did. Come in, I was about to make tea," She said as she stepped aside to admit Amarie. She closed the door behind Amarie, and then it began to rain. "Perfect timing," She said with a small smile as she put the water on to boil. "Well? What do we do about the rebels? We already sent out spies, but they might not help much," She said to her friend.

*Mage Dhinil quickens his pace as he moves through the city streets. Wrapping his cloak tighter around his body as a freezing wind picks up and prickles his exposed skin with frigid air. He'd arrived only this afternoon with a merchant train and was making his way to the blacksmith quarter where he'd been invited by the head smith to come and share techniques with the empowering of blades.*

**Sorceress's Tower**

*At the base of the tall tower in which the sorceress Clarisse resided, Satoh raised his snout to sniff the air. The world was not at rest, he enjoyed the violence of a storm. He smelled the unnaturalness of this storm and knew that it was magically summoned, he cared little of whom summoned it but he would enjoy it. When it was over would be soon enough to report to Clarisse the reports from his numerous spies regarding the activities of the week. For now the storm was starting...*

**Forest**

*Uxrut hugs the furs she wears tightly around her, the cold air of the storm and the rain was starting to cool her down and she could feel her self slowing. She hated this weather, it was bad for her kind, the desert and heat were better suited. She snarled as she moved through the forest, her staff in hand.*

*Uxrut spies a male (Sadentìr) crouched by a tree, and she seeing the wisdom of the limited shelter the tree could provide makes her way over to him. She needed warmth, perhaps she could gain information from this man...*

Uxrut: Hello the tree...*she calls in greeting in order not to startle the man crouched at its base as she steps under the trees shelter.*

Amarie smiled to her friend as she took a seat by the fireplace,she pondered the question for awhile,"I'm not sure but I don't think it's wise we attack them when we do not know how many there are and what they're planning to do,if we could,we should negotiate.Then we could avoid killing.."Amarie answered.

Ezaria held Selena's hand and cheered her up, "Come on, don't be so hopeless like that!" said her. Selena could only smiled back and kept walking with her. "Here..." Ezaria then chanted something to make Selena felt better, "The delicate breath, vigor and vitality to my friend. Recovery."

As vague light surrounded Selena, she felt a little better. "Thanks..."

"That's my job as a healer!" said Ezaria, smiling sweetly.

"Good! Now let's move to Shazarade City!" said Selena spiritedly.

--- Shazarade City, 2 hours later ---

The girls looked around them as they entered the lively city. This was their first visit to this city, but they had heard enough of Shazarade so they knew what to do. "Okay... Before start collecting information about 'that', let's find an inn to stay first!" said Selena.

Islûsan nodded. "I agree. I think it best to avoid as much bloodshed as possible concerning them. Especially since some were pupils of my own," She said.

Sadentìr turned toward the new voice (Uxrut) and stood up. "Hello, there," He said back as he walked toward her. "May I ask what you're doing out here at this time of night?"

Amarie nodded,"Yes...some were mine too,I really hope that we could stop whatever they're planning but we can't really blame them can we?"said Amarie sadly.

Islûsan sighed and shook her head. "No, we can't. We brought this upon ourselves," She said softly as she stared out the window. She wondered whether her students were getting along without her.

Amarie stood up and joined Islûsan at the window,she stared out of it as well,looking far beyond the horizon that met her eyes,"I hope they're alright...It'll be nice if we could meet them again,there are so many problems now,the sorceress for one is creating a lot of trouble.."Amarie said as she turned her eyes away from the window and looked at her friend.

Islûsan nodded. "The war has gone on for too long. Though I have been here for only a short time, I have seen much. I watched as my father died at the hands of the sorceress, and in that moment, I knew that I was to become the next High Mage. I readily accepted my duty in honor of my father's memory, but I am beginning to think now that maybe it was a mistake," She said softly. "I pray to the goddess of the light moon to shine down a blessing upon my students."

Amarie smiled,"Thats all we can do for now,but we must stop the sorceress from creating more victims...Stop her from making others suffer like we did,we share the same fate,"Amarie said recalling her past,it wasn't pleasant to remember nor was it pleasant to talk about it.
